Friday night lights began for Dakota Ridge on August 30, 2024, with a tragic 38-23 loss to Chatfield. After a rough season last year, the team is ready and gearing up to move into a new season with new captains and coaches.
The end of the normal season falls on Halloween against Bear Creek this year. One of the major events includes Homecoming this week against Mesa Ridge and senior night later in the season. Many of the new captains are excited about the new season.
“I am incredibly excited to be going into the season as a captain. I am honored to be able to represent and lead this team,” senior Zachary Wolfinger, one of the nine team captains this year, said.
DRHS also has a new head coach, Jeremiah Behrendsen, who will be representing the team after the retirement of Ron Woitalewicz last year.
“I am super confident in Coach B. I have been coached by him for the past two years, and I’m certain he’s the right man for the job,” Wolfinger said.
The team is excited to move into the brand new football season with a fresh start and one of the hardest schedules in 4A, having no off-weeks. The team will have to fill the gap left by the seniors who graduated last year and work together to make this season a good one for DRHS.
The next Dakota Ridge Varsity football game is on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 7 p.m. against Mesa Ridge at Jeffco Stadium
