Homecoming week is something almost all students at Dakota Ridge get excited for. It’s a week of events that get all students involved, as well as staff. Unfortunately, the weather has not been on Dakota Ridge’s side. Mrs. Lucas, assistant principal,  first broke the news that the annual bonfire would be canceled to students’ parents on Monday afternoon, October 7th.

Some students were confused, since last year the bonfire was still held even though there was a restriction on fires in the West Metro Area due to drought like conditions. This year, however, there were safety precautions that needed to be followed due to snow and inclement weather.

“Risk management at the district stated if it snows like the forecast states we could get 4-6 inches and it would not be safe having students in the parking lots,” Lucas said.

Even though students were disappointed over the news, the decision was made to keep students safe from car accidents that snow storms cause. Fortunately, the weather improved for Friday’s parade.
