Parent Teacher Conferences are coming to Dakota Ridge High School on October 16th, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All teachers and counselors will be in the main gym and main hall for students and parents. This is the chance for students and parents to meet with teachers and discuss their academics and students in the classroom. It’s a great opportunity for students to understand where their grades are as the school reaches the middle of the first semester.
Conferences will be set up in the main gym where students and parents get to pick and choose which teachers they wish to talk to. Some students will be requested to come to parent teacher conferences by a specific teacher. It is important to be prepared when going to talk to a teacher.
“For conferences, if a kid is going to come with their parents, they need to talk to each other before they come about what it is you want to know and what it is they want to accomplish,” Dakota Ridge Spanish teacher Michelle Guerra said.
Some teachers expect students to look over Infinite Campus and arrive knowing what they wish to discuss with them in order to be more efficient. Having a game plan is important because the teacher will be able to help and support students better in developing and being successful with their plan, and because time is limited — each conference is supposed to last about five minutes.
Many families may not feel the need to come to conferences, but because some students may struggle asking for help, these individual conferences offer a start to getting the help needed from both teachers and parents. Teachers may also refer students to the academic page on the Dakota Ridge website which offers a multitude of academic supports
“It was really helpful for me because I got to grow a connection with the teacher, and it was helpful for my parents to really see how I am doing in school,” DRHS senior Nani Sluiter said.
Dakota Ridge Academic support is set up with tutors and offers extra support for students. It displays the Dakota Ridge schedule and shows students when Talon Time and AE are available.
All teacher information and resources can be found on the Dakota Ridge Website under Academic Departments. From there the teacher will be under their respective subjects.
