An IB Art Exhibition at Lakewood Cultural Arts Center is showing from March 4 through March 29, and on Wednesday, March 13, there will be artists featured from Dakota Ridge and the IB Arts program. The reception begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.
The event will be free to attend, with light refreshments. The IB exhibition is partnered with Lakewood High School, including 27 individual exhibitions in total, 12 from Dakota Ridge High School.
“I am really excited to be able to showcase my art for the people I love,” DRHS IB Visual Arts student Madilyn Vernon said.
The excitement is shared with hesitation, though, as Vernon also explained how nervous she is about how many people are going to show up. She isn’t the only one.
“I’m slightly worried about the amount of people who will be looking at my art,” DRHS IB Visual Arts student Naomi Clark said.
Plenty of people will be at the event to observe, and for some artists, that will be a new experience.
“Personally, this is my first time my art is being seen publicly, and I’ve needed to instill immense confidence in myself and my skills,” DRHS IB Visual Arts student Cassidy Gebhard said.
It can be difficult to show something publically that an artist has worked on so hard because of the fear of being judged, but all of the artists expressed excitement. They can’t wait to see other artists and everyone’s reactions.
“Everyone in my class shares our similar sentiments,” Gebhard said, “and though we have our own nervousness, we are all thrilled to be the central part of this event.”
