The Annual Blood Drive Makes Its Return This Year

This Tuesday the annual fall blood drive came to Dakota Ridge, allowing students ages 16 and older to donate blood to help others in need. The process of donating blood could take up to 1 hour but that would be a small payment for the price of saving 3 lives. The first half merely meeting the qualifications, which could take awhile, making sure the student is healthy and has safe blood for others.
“I’m a diabetic so I’m used to needles, it doesn’t really bother me. So it’s just an easy thing for me to do. So you know if I can do it, I might as well.” says Cathryn Wardlow (11). “It’s nice to know that it helps other people in a big way. It’s something pretty easy, and it doesn’t take that much time to do.”
Every year when the blood drive comes again, all faculty encourages the students, if able or eligible, to donate blood. Most students are sensitive to the sight of blood and that is completely fine, it isn’t required, but if students are capable of giving blood it would be highly useful for the people that need it. When giving blood it shouldn’t be looked at as requirement of assignment, it is a very personal act of kindness. The students are able to help out people they will most likely never know or meet, but they would save their life.
“It felt like a good thing to do, and there wasn’t any reason not to give blood. It something simple to do, and if you have the ability to do it, why not..if it’s going to be for a good cause.” said Jack Crowley (12).
Dakota Ridge comes together in different situations, this is one of many. Until next year, the students that gave blood can rest knowing that their blood will be used for good.
