The Importance of the SAT
January 23, 2020
Last Thursday, the juniors of Dakota took a practice SAT, reminding them of the imminent test that teachers have made clear of its importance. The SAT is even more important for this year’s juniors, considering there is a new benchmark to meet in order to graduate.
The SAT is considered one of the most important tests of one’s high school career. Many colleges and jobs look at your scores and evaluate if you’d be a good fit based on your score. This can cause major stress for juniors awaiting the test.
When asked to describe the SAT, Christi Watts-Gebhard, a teacher at Dakota, had one word to say–“significant”. Many teachers have instilled in students the importance of the test and the consequences of not taking it seriously.
Some ways to prepare for the SAT include completing practice tests or available daily practice assignments on College Board, become familiar with the test’s format and structure, make a study plan, and find some testing strategies. Many teachers also are willing to help juniors prepare. SAT Academy, an opportunity to receive specific content area prep from different teachers, will take place in the following months.
With the last practice over, it is time for juniors to start taking preparations seriously.
