Camryn Fitzhugh is a senior at Dakota Ridge High School who has left a lasting legacy. Fitzhugh has been involved in poms for all four years of high school, and she truly enjoys the sport and all the friends and connections she has gained from it, including dancing, which she has a strong passion for.
“My favorite memory from poms is my sophomore year,” Fitzhugh said. “We went to nationals and got 11th and 8th in the nation.”
Fitzhugh has learned to keep going and to persevere through hardships in life. For example, she had a major surgery, but she learned to push through it and keep going to get stronger instead of giving up.
“She is an amazing person,” senior Nani Sluiter said. “She has been involved with poms for quite some time now. She is the head captain and seems to enjoy what she does.”
Fitzhugh enjoys a variety of hobbies that allow her to be creative. She especially enjoys painting and bedazzling, as well as spending time with her friends and creating close connections before she goes off to college.
In Fitzhugh’s future, she does not plan on continuing dancing, but she does plan on going to college in Kansas at Kansas University, majoring in computer engineering. Fitzhugh chose the major because it runs in her family, but she also has a unique interest in math. When she picked KU, she had concerns about leaving all her friends and starting new, but the school caught her eye because she had family that went to the university, and she also just loved the campus because of its beauty and community.

“When I toured the school, I absolutely loved it, it was gorgeous and felt like a home,” Fitzhugh said.
Overall, Fitzhugh is very excited for a new experience at college, but also a little scared about being in a brand new state that she hasn’t lived in. Surely, Fitzhugh’s engaging personality and easy-going attitude will allow her to adjust and make new friends pretty easily.
