TikTok was recently on the chopping block, but in a last-minute effort, the app was saved by President Trump. Because the TikTok app is well known across the world, it might have had great impacts if it had gotten banned.
TikTok is a viral app that shares funny and relatable videos everywhere. When you post a video on TikTok, you are allowed to comment on the video and say anything that comes to mind, but this could become dangerous over time because soon, nice and positive comments become hateful and very critical.
TikTok has been around for six long years and has gotten increasingly worse and worse. In 2020, president Trump wanted to ban TikTok because of possible security threats and negative impacts, and ever since then, TikTok has had an ongoing battle with being banned.
TikTok has helped many people who are struggling and allowed them to earn money through all its sponsorships, videos, and TikTok Lives. But through this, the wrong types of people are being watched and promoted, giving them money, allowing them to grow and have a stronger influence on everyone else.
Although TikTok has been saved for now, I think that it would be a good idea to get rid of the app in total, starting as soon as possible. I think this because the negative social and physical impacts it is having is extreme, and the more this goes on, the worse it will get. TikTok has also had a big problem with ““collecting user data.” Many people on the app think that their info is getting hacked and possibly being used for other things, but the TikTok owner, Zhang Yiming, ensures and that they cannot and never have been able to access their user’s data. This was and still is one of TikTok’s biggest problems and is why it is consistently the topic of potential banning. Even if this information about collecting user data is false, it is still a concerning statement that is deterring me from liking the app.

Without TikTok, people would be more social instead of being glued to a phone. It would also allow people to maybe have more original ideas and improve their critical thinking skills. Sharing ideas face to face, and just simply interacting face to face, is way more important than sharing ideas through a screen. Having a physical connection with someone that you can make on your own is a good skill that will get you way further in life, such as being able to get a job, making new friends, and being able to socialize in public places without being afraid.
I would suggest everyone start now and simply disconnect from TikTok. That would be an amazing start that woud allow your skills to only grow from now on.
