Holiday cheer is the air at DRHS. The annual Winter Festival musical performance will be hosted in the auditorium on Tuesday, December 10, and Wednesday, December 11, at 6:30 p.m. each night. Performances feature the symphonic and jazz band, chamber and string orchestra, choir and more! Tickets online cost $5, and paying upon entry will cost $6 at the door. The concert includes a variety of musical selections.
“There is some music that is related to Christmas,” DRHS choir director Alexis Rolls-Duffy said. “There’s some music related to Hanukkah, and then there’s some music just related to this time of year in general.”
Rolls-Duffy said that one choir group is performing a song about the Orion constellation, since it’s most visible during the winter months, and the hope it can bring in these darker months.
Some songs are based on commonly-watched holiday movies as well as classics. Not only that, but it’s also “a special event because it’s really the only event where we’re fully combined,” Rolls-Duffy said.
This concert isn’t just appreciated by the staff, but also the students who participate.
“I really like it,” band student Johnny Heberlein, junior, said. “It’s a good opportunity for all of the music students in our school to showcase their talents, and it’s the one time of the year we all perform together.”
The performance is a special time for everyone involved, as it’s the one time of year when all the musical art classes get together for a concert. According to Rolls-Duffy, if there’s anyone doubting whether or not to go, the Winter Festival is a good concert to attend. Especially if it’s your first one.
