DRHS senior Asa Davison, an athletic and academic weapon with a love for football and lacrosse, has received and committed to a scholarship from Concordia University Irvine to carry on with his lacrosse career. Throughout his high school journey, Davison has worked through multiple tough plays and injuries. His teammates, friends and family are all very supportive of him, and are proud of Davison’s accomplishments.
“I’m really excited to go to Concordia University Irvine, it’s gonna be great,” Davison said. “It’s gonna be a change, and it’s not gonna be cold at all, it’s just hot all year round.”
Davison wants his teammates and fellow peers to know that they should never give up and give full effort.
“A piece of advice I’d give to others would probably be to give full effort all the time,” Davison said, “and never give up, cause that’s kinda how I got into the spot I’m in today.”
Throughout his high school journey, Davison has led by example as a captain for DRHS football. According to his teammates, they look up to Davison for being a great role model, leader, and a supportive captain for the DRHS varsity football team.
Davison is ranked 96th in Colorado for 1 stat, 23rd in Division 4A for 1 stat, and 4th in 4A South Metro for 1 stat. He wears #1 as the defensive back, and was announced player of the game on October 17, 2024 at Highlands Ranch. Throughout the 2024-2025 football season, Davison has had 20 total tackles, 13 solo tackles, 3 interceptions, and 7 passes defensed, according to MaxPreps.
“He’s been really vocal in the times where we need our captains to be vocal, and he’s always uplifting and a really good leader in general,” junior football player Marcus Weston said. “I’m super proud of Asa, especially with his scholarship offer.”
Davison had to overcome challenges to get to the point where he is today. He has played lacrosse since 3rd grade, playing for TRUE Lacrosse, DRHS, and soon Concordia University Irvine. Davison has also played football since 2nd grade and was named varsity football captain at the beginning of the 2024-2025 football season.
“He’s overcome his injuries and played his top tier football, and we all know that he’s been going through injuries, but he’s been playing through them, so that just shows his love for the sport and the team,” senior football player Dominic Smith said. “Even though his scholarship isn’t for football, he’s been on the grind for lacrosse for a long time, and he’s come a long way…I admire his leadership and the fact he never gives up on things that he loves, even when things don’t go the best.”
Being a good leader shows that someone has to care about their peers and teammates.
“I would say that I have a lot of compassion for other people, and then loyalty as well,” Davison said. “I never leave my friends and teammates behind.”
Davison has favorite memories from the past two years with the football team, and he says that team building trips can create new friendships and relationships that overall enhances game time with teammates.
“One thing that’s a big team building thing for me was going up to Pueblo for football the past two years,” Davison said. “It’s pretty fun because you get to make those relationships with your teammates. And going against those other teams, it’s just a good way to start the season.”
Although Davison is an academic and athletic leader, he still enjoys spending time with his friends and family outside of school.
“Whenever I’m not playing football or lacrosse, I’m either doing homework, playing video games, or hanging out with my friends,” Davison said. “In the summer when I have more time, I definitely go outside more, to go play some volleyball or something, but nowadays it’s cold and I don’t wanna be outside.”
Davison is ready to end this chapter of his life and start a new one, overcome new challenges, and achieve new goals. We’ll see where he goes next.
