Make A Wish Come True Week

Monday, April 1 kicked off Dakota Ridge’s annual Wish Week in which the school rallies to try and raise money for someone’s wish to come true.

Students decked out in their Ridge-wear as they entered the school, dreading coming back after a relaxing spring break. Senior girls wore their senior pants and athletes wore their sports clothing coloring the school in different items of cardinal, navy, and white.

Some students walk through the halls confused by the posters plastered along the walls dictating the week’s spirit days. Some are confused why these days are Ridge-wear or Disney Day, but Wish Week is more than just the spirit week leading up to Prom. It stands for something.

“Wish week this year is particularly important because our recipient, Olivia, is a member of the Dakota Ridge Community. I really think maintaining the Wish Week tradition is important to the community surrounding the school specifically, as it allows for everyone to unite towards a joint cause. Everyone benefits from Wish Week, and that is what really makes Make a Wish a wonderful organization!” says Jenna Davis (12), President of National Honors Society whose members work tirelessly organizing this week.

This week stands for raising funds for Olivia, a young girl in the community to get her wish, a chance to go to the beach. Lei sales are set up at lunch to raise money and fundraisers are conducted after school with local establishments to bring in as much money as possible.

Today, students filled the Chipotle at Ken Caryl to support the fundraiser. And as the week continues, Wish Week provides plenty more opportunities to get food and support Olivia’s wish.

Tomorrow, the theme is Disney Day in honor of Olivia’s love of all things Disney. Dress up as your favorite princess, or wear that Mickey Mouse shirt. Dakota encourages students to come support the Men’s Baseball team at their game tomorrow afternoon which will host food trucks also participating in the fundraising.

Don’t forget that tomorrow will be an assembly schedule so the day starts with 6th block; seminar meets at the end of the day with a fun Cash Dash at the all-school assembly.
