As the season draws to a close, the Dakota Ridge Girls Varsity Volleyball team takes on their fiercest competitor yet. With an undefeated score of 13-0 Valor Christian High School’s Varsity Volleyball has earned their reputation. On Wednesday, October 10th the two teams are matched within Valor’s gothic halls.

Gloomy weather fails to drive fans away as fluorescent lights and cheers fill the gym. Jordana Volpe (12), a team player since her freshman year, returns to the game for the first time since recovering from an injury this fall. “We’ve been working on getting over our mistakes and capitalizing on theirs. We could slow them down if we got them out of system,” Volpe says.

The girls fought through two sets and held some impressive volleys before surrendering to Valor’s winning streak. “We’re a sensitive team, it’s hard to get over our losses sometimes,” says Volpe, “today especially we were having a rough time communicating.”

While the two teams met at the net to exchange congratulations the freshman team was still in the intense last moments of their game. Cheers erupted from the varsity girls encouraging their younger peers. The freshman girls pursued to tie up the game before pulling through with a victory of 15-12.

Aly Cody (9), new to the pressures of competitive volleyball says, “I’m honored to play with such a dedicated group, especially as a freshman, of course there is room for improvement but I’m excited to see where our team will go from here.”
