The Buell Theatre at the Denver Center for Performing Arts is where friends and families take shelter from the bitter cold Wednesday evening. Not a seat in the house is left empty on the opening night of the Broadway tour of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”

The theatre’s atmosphere is lively before the show even begins. The evening was advertised as kid’s night, offering not only free children’s admission, but festive crafts, photo opportunities for the family, and a small children’s choir in the lobby. A station to write and send holiday letters to our military is also set up, very fitting to the show. Refreshments including alcoholic beverages and my personal favorite, an assortment of treats from a local bakery, are available before the show and during intermission.

The performance is the perfect start to the holiday season as it follows the classic film, accompanied by song and dance. Singers and former soldiers Wallace and Davis join sisters Betty and Judy Hanes to perform a Christmas spectacle to save the Vermont Inn.

The performers’ enthusiasm and beautifully designed sets and costumes will make you want to be part of the production. The whole crowd sings along to the last song as snow falls from the stage. The experience is entrancing.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas will be available at the Buell Theatre until December 15th. My family has made a tradition out of the experience, and I highly recommend your family does too.
